Audio Vinyl Delight - Turntable by Simon Yorke

Simon Yorke Designs Series 7 turntable

The S7(by Simon Yorke) was designed following requests from National and other sound archives for a truly professional transcription system capable of playing almost any analogue disc ever produced - a player to enable historic recordings to be accurately transcribed in a precise, consistent and simple manner – without any loss of ‘soul’ or sound quality.

The archival version of the S7 (used by many of the largest and most prestigious National Sound Archives in the world) is equipped with a special CNC motion control system that permits very precise speed selection (10,00 – 120,00 rpm) and the physical capacity to play discs of up to 500mm diameter in both directions.

The platter is a perfectly balanced flywheel, machined to micron accuracy in 30mm austenitic (non-magnetic) stainless steel. With a mass in excess of 11kg, the stored kinetic energy guarantees absolute stability of speed. The turntable is supplied with a record mat fabricated from pure graphite and a high mass record clamp. The module, or turntable chassis, is a massive stainless steel disc of 185mm diameter into which the turntable bearing is built, and onto which the armboard is affixed.

The a.c. motor drive system delivers speeds of 33, 45 & 78 rpm, driving the platter via a compliant belt and precision transfer bearing system. The motor and intermediate transfer bearing, both free standing, dissipate residual vibration through precise mechanical tolerances and carefully utilised mass.

The S7 is usually supplied complete with one 9" S7 tonearm though armboards for simultaneously mounting two S7 tonearms (9" or 12") may also be supplied.
