TAG Heuer “Calibre 360”

What is most extraordinary about the “Calibre 360” movement is that the chronograph function is not just a "module" added on to the automatic watch movement.
With its barrel, separate manual winding system, gearwheel and the independent balance wheel and spiral mechanism, it is a genuine and wholly separate movement, a chronograph with a power-reserve counter and a quick-rotating barrel that offers 100 minutes of power reserve, plus its most remarkable component: a single-pallet escapement wheel and special balance wheel. The high-precision mechanism, specially created and hand-assembled, provides an unbelievable oscillating frequency of 360,000 vibrations per hour. With such a high-powered system, the “Calibre 360” creates a new milestone in Swiss watchmaking history. The quantum leap to 360,000 vibrations per hour from usually 28,800 or 36,000 could be compared to a Formula 1 engine jumping from 18,000 rpm to 180,000 rpm !
As the “Calibre 360” is a worldwide first in the history of watchmaking, TAG Heuer has filed for two exclusive worldwide patents :
The first patent protects the 1/100th of a second counter on a mechanical wrist chronograph.
The second patent protects the unique crown control system. The single crown winds both movements and controls the watch’s hour and date settings. A clockwise rotation loads the barrel on the manual chronograph movement; a counter-clockwise rotation rewinds the automatic movement that gives the time.

Grand Carrera by TAG Heuer

The Grand Carrera collection includes several new models that pay homage to the original 1964 Carrera design and features the TAG Heuer Calibre RS movement.

The indicators of this exclusive, GT engine-inspired rotating system enable wearers to read small seconds, a second time zone or chronograph time effortlessly, providing them with at-a-glance access to precision timing.
All models host a "Cotes de Geneve" screw and polished beveled edges complimented by curved, faceted horns on both case sides, a curved, sapphire crystal with double antireflective treatment and a double sapphire crystal caseback. The dials feature a hand-applied TAG Heuer logo and curved faceted markers. Oversized screw-in crowns and push-button clasps complete the sophisticated look of the pieces which are also water resistant to 100 meters.

The series is certified with the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC) Automatic Movement and will be available in late 2007.

Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS
Classically chic with a silver, brown or black dial, this 40.2 mm timepiece is equipped with a TAG Heuer Calibre 6 RS movement. The Rotating System at 6 o'clock, decorated with Cotes de Geneve and diamond polished facets, indicates seconds. It is available on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap for $2,995 or with a steel and gold bracelet for $4,295.
Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS Grand Date GMT Created with the world traveler in mind, this dual-time watch features a second GMT time zone visible through an aperture at 6 o'clock. It also offers the first-ever TAG Heuer automatic movement with an oversized date window at 12 o'clock. It is offered with black, silver or brown dial, steel bracelet or alligator strap for $3,495.
Grand Carrera Chronograph Calibre 17 RS
This COSC-certified chronograph features a 43 mm dial, screw-in crown, screw-in chronograph pushbuttons and hand-applied date window at 6 o'clock. The dial is equipped with two rotating systems with Cotes de Geneve treatments and diamond polished facets: seconds at 3 o'clock; chronograph minute at 9 o'clock. It is available with a black or silver dial on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap for $4,495.

"CHRONOGRAPH" mode enables the measurement of simple time, split time and two periods of time that follow at very short intervals.
