Montegiro Lusso Turntable

Montegiro Lusso

Spectacular and extravagant, in a breathtaking, unheard-of design, the lusso is built upon alternate layers of aluminium and black acrylic, including the topsy-turvy cone for the aluminium platter fitted with an acrylic platter! The lusso is driven by a newly developed, extremely precise high-end synchronous motor suspended within one of the cones. The cones, connected to each other, embrace height-adjustable feet that serve for perfect set-up. Even the carbon tonearm, mounted on a cone, demonstrates high style.
Sonically, the lusso carries you into a perfect world of sound: Between precise, crystalline highs, and weighty bass is a generous, softly melting midrange that helps produce an ideal, musically balanced turntable. Both the base version of the lusso with three cones and the top-of-the-line model with four cones and two tonearms provide the perfect symbiosis of technique and design!

The basic configuration consists of a 10’’ carbon arm from Da Vinci (model Nobile), and the MG1 from the montegiro family, a state-of-the-art pickup-system from titanium. The top-of-the-line model with four cones includes a 9’’ SME, model 5009 tonearm.

Price: $ 47,000

TAG Heuer “Calibre 360”

What is most extraordinary about the “Calibre 360” movement is that the chronograph function is not just a "module" added on to the automatic watch movement.
With its barrel, separate manual winding system, gearwheel and the independent balance wheel and spiral mechanism, it is a genuine and wholly separate movement, a chronograph with a power-reserve counter and a quick-rotating barrel that offers 100 minutes of power reserve, plus its most remarkable component: a single-pallet escapement wheel and special balance wheel. The high-precision mechanism, specially created and hand-assembled, provides an unbelievable oscillating frequency of 360,000 vibrations per hour. With such a high-powered system, the “Calibre 360” creates a new milestone in Swiss watchmaking history. The quantum leap to 360,000 vibrations per hour from usually 28,800 or 36,000 could be compared to a Formula 1 engine jumping from 18,000 rpm to 180,000 rpm !
As the “Calibre 360” is a worldwide first in the history of watchmaking, TAG Heuer has filed for two exclusive worldwide patents :
The first patent protects the 1/100th of a second counter on a mechanical wrist chronograph.
The second patent protects the unique crown control system. The single crown winds both movements and controls the watch’s hour and date settings. A clockwise rotation loads the barrel on the manual chronograph movement; a counter-clockwise rotation rewinds the automatic movement that gives the time.

$300,000 "Day&Night" Watch by Romain Jerome

One of the first releases in the DNA of Famous Legends collection by Romain Jerome was the Titanic DNA watch, featuring oxidized steel salvaged from the real Titanic. The collection is rapidly expanding with several different models now available featuring everything from rust to jewels, but perhaps one of the most noteworthy is the "Day&Night" watch. It doesn't tell the time, it just tells you whether it's day or night.

Fractal Furniture by Takeshi Miyakawa

The art project, conceived by Takeshi Miyakawa, turns a big wooden block into an überstorage device. From the name, Fractal 23, we infer that it has no fewer than 23 drawers. In an effort to use every bit of space in the Fractal, there are even a couple of holes up top that you can plunk things in.

KOHLER KARBON ARTICULATING KITCHEN FAUCET

The stainless steel faucet utilizes carbon fiber for extra strength and less weight, while staying within the bounds of the design. It also has two spray modes.

From Kohler's website:

KOHLER LAUNCHES BREAKTHROUGH KARBON ARTICULATING KITCHEN FAUCET
New kitchen faucet marries ultimate kitchen functionality with visually entrancing design
KOHLER, Wis. - April 11, 2008 - What does the ultimate in functionality for a kitchen faucet really mean? For Kohler Co. - a global leader in kitchen and bath design and technology - ultimate functionality can be defined as a kitchen faucet that possesses the functionality and performance of a pull-down faucet, while also allowing the user to position and leave the sprayhead right where it's needed, thereby freeing up both hands for kitchen prep and clean-up tasks. To develop a kitchen faucet that satisfied this requirement was the tall task presented to the Kohler new product development team. The result is the new KOHLER Karbon kitchen faucet, a faucet of unexpected and intriguing design that will undoubtedly become the primary focal point of any contemporary kitchen setting.
"This articulating faucet represents a breakthrough in the evolution of the category," commented Les Petch, senior product manager for KOHLER kitchen faucets. "The quest for the ultimate in functionality has not only produced a faucet that outperforms other models but has also yielded an astonishing piece of contemporary design work that represents as much a piece of art as the next generation in faucet technology. It truly is a one-of-a-kind."
The original design impetus of the Karbon kitchen faucet was inspired by lighting and construction equipment with articulating joints. The Kohler design team took this concept and created a product that signals a paradigm shift in the functionality and design of modern kitchen faucets. "Form really does follow function in this case," said Petch. "But that doesn't take away from the fact that the Karbon faucet is an outstanding piece of modern industrial design." The use of a textured carbon fiber composite adds further appeal to a unique visual aesthetic that reinforces the contemporary nature of the design.
Unlike other kitchen faucets, the Karbon faucet will maintain the exact position where a user places it within its allotted reach in or outside the sink, keeping the spray head and water flow exactly where it's desired. Additionally, the faucet offers both spray and aerated water flow options, eliminating the need for a sidespray. An elaborate design detail is featured in the remote joystick valve that consists of two disks of identical size installed flush with the countertop to provide an unusually sleek look and offer easy cleaning.
The actual construction of the faucet is a combination of traditional brass and innovative carbon fiber composite tubing. The logic behind the use of carbon fiber lies in its superior strength and light weight, allowing for tight movement tolerance and the exceptional functional performance of this faucet. The joints connecting the four sections of the faucet employ a novel patented technology that provides exceptional resistance to support the spout while allowing for smooth and effortless handling.
The Karbon kitchen faucet is available in high quality, durable Polished Chrome and Vibrant® Stainless finishes and carries a lifetime limited warranty. Offering easy installation, it relies on flexible connections and installation rings. Installers will want to take note that the joystick valve requires non-standard holes of two inches in diameter.

S.T. Dupont New York Fifth Avenue Lighter Limited Edition

S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 New York Fifth Avenue

In the 1930s and 40s, American aristocrats who lived on New York's 5th Avenue commissioned the most talented French designers and architects, and their style is the inspiration behind Dupont's dazzling collection. Taupe and chocolate lacquers are embellished with pale gold-plated metallic high relief. Approximately 120 hours of work are required to produce a single lighter (3 times as long as the standard lacquered lighter) and the combination of guilloche, chasing, engraving, plating, and polishing evidence the care and time brought to each one. Among the notable details you'll find the opulent central globe motif inspired by the 1936 statue of Atlas located at Rockefeller Center. Each lighter is sequentially numbered from 1 to 1929, the date of Lucien Tissot Dupont's first trip to New York.

Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Sports Utility Watch - SUW

Grande Seconde SUW Jaquet Droz
Entering the sports watch field for the first time, Jaquet Droz confirms its mastery of the aesthetic and technical concerns of the 21st century, based on the Manufacture’s values over the last two centuries: boldness, a sense of adventure and the love of a challenge.
Inspired by the design of the “Grande Seconde”, the central icon of the company’s history and know-how, the “Grande Seconde Sports Utility Watch” is a new expression of this spirit.

With a fluted bezel in a sharp and sporty design, hollowed out lugs, claws cut from the block protecting the crown: the 45 mm steel case combines solidity and masculine elegance. These attributes are reflected in the treated rubber dial which has a three-dimensional highlight, combining a totally new play of volumes with the lightness of the Super-LumiNova skeleton hands, tattooed – like the indicators – in one of the ingrained colours of racing sports: orange.
Shockproof, and fitted with a self-winding double-barrel mechanical movement, which sets in vibrant motion a 22-carat gold oscillating weight, the “Grande Seconde SUW” is waterproof up to 88 meters and has a vulcanised rubber strap.

BMW M1 supercar

BMW showing its M1 Homage, a tribute to a legendary super-sports car that began production 30 years ago. This M1, however, is only a concept.

The M1 Homage holds remarkably firmly to the original, which had a BMW father and a Lamborghini mother (or vice versa; your call). Production of the original M1 ended in 1981 after a mediocre racing career few remember. It's better known for accelerating people to its top end of 162 mph, and doing it with a refinement rare among sports cars.

The two best features of the new version: 1) BMW created a new color, Liquid Orange, for just this concept car — never has any hue known as "orange" been this right on a car. 2) The bestial front end. The headlights are set deeply back into the grill (there is, technically no such thing on this car). They peer out in a feral squint. All the sharp lines flow together to create a look of absolute patience. It will pounce when it can take you down with the least amount of effort.
